Īt some point, visitors from the future traveled to the time of the Black Empire to save Chromie who was locked in a battle with Eternus. However, as was so often the case, even defeat ultimately worked in N'Zoth's favor. Xal'atath claims that in ages past, the God of the Deep lost a great battle to the God of Seven Heads in the land that would later become known as the Broken Shore. Countless ages ago, Warlord Zon'ozz and his soldiers waged endless war in the name of N'Zoth against the forces of C'Thun and Yogg-Saron. N'Zoth in the east of ancient Kalimdor during the reign of the Black Empire.ĭuring the days of the Black Empire, N'Zoth controlled a vast territory in the east of Kalimdor, covering much of what would later become known as the Eastern Kingdoms. N'Zoth served as one of the main antagonists (alongside Sylvanas Windrunner) in Battle for Azeroth. However, N'Zoth was ultimately destroyed by the Forge of Origination empowered with the. He launched Assaults on the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum in order to acquire the Engine of Nalak'sha and the Forge of Origination, and corrupted the Titan Keeper, Ra. N'Zoth restored the Black Empire and Ny'alotha, and rose the aqir from their ancient slumber beneath the desert sands. His influence had spread through Kul Tiras through the order of the Tidesages, and Queen Azshara launched a major assault on the Alliance and the Horde, bringing them to Nazjatar as part of a scheme that led to the Old God being freed from the Last Prison and unleashed upon Azeroth once again. Though the Hour of Twilight was averted, N'Zoth returned in Battle for Azeroth. During the final battle at Wyrmrest Temple, N'Zoth sent his own minions, the n'raqi, to aid the assault. N'Zoth struck at the world on all fronts, aiming to overwhelm the mortal factions and hoping that even if only one of these attacks succeeded, it would be enough to bring about the Hour of Twilight. On order of N'Zoth, Queen Azshara's naga invaded Vash'jir and attempted to kidnap Neptulon, while Al'Akir and his servants attempted to steal the Forge of Origination in Uldum, and Ragnaros and his fire elementals assaulted Mount Hyjal in order to destroy the World Tree Nordrassil. Meanwhile, Cho'gall and the Twilight's Hammer successfully took control of the Highlands from the Wildhammer dwarves, establishing the Bastion of Twilight. At N'Zoth's word, Deathwing exploded from Deepholm into Azeroth, breaking down the boundaries between the two realms, and igniting a chain reaction of natural disasters around the planet, collectively known as the Cataclysm. This destabilized the elemental realm and threw the Elements into turmoil, in an event known as the Elemental Unrest. He imbued Deathwing with untold amounts of power, while he was recovering and absorbing the Elemental Plane's energies from Deepholm at the same time. In Cataclysm, and following Yogg-Saron's defeat, N'Zoth resurfaced to bring about the Hour of Twilight. Īlthough considered the weakest of the four by Xal'atath and Azshara, N'Zoth was responsible for the corruption of the black Dragon Aspect Neltharion into Deathwing, as well as that of Queen Azshara and her Highborne, turning them into the naga, the co-creation of the Emerald Nightmare, the Cataclysm, and the restoration of the Black Empire. For years, most of what was "known" about this most insidious of beings consisted largely of speculation. There were also whispers that N'Zoth desired nothing more than to twist what was once noble and pure to its own inscrutable ends. Scraps of obscure lore claimed that the Old God had been imprisoned beneath the darkest depths of the ocean for millennia beyond counting.
Prior to the Fourth War, very little was certain about N'Zoth - most beings on Azeroth did not even know its name, much less what it looked like. Until the events of the Fourth War, N'Zoth remained notoriously elusive and was largely a mystery, being the last Old God besides the deceased Y'Shaarj that had still yet to be directly encountered by adventurers. N'Zoth (pronounced nuh-ZAWTH) is one of the four Old Gods that landed on Azeroth, malefic beings that were sequestered by the titans during Azeroth's primordial ages. N'Zoth's whisper during the Uu'nat encounter “With every choice, you become more my servant.”
